ActiCH4R™ FAQs

What is ActiCH4R™?

ActiCH4R™ is a natural, carbon-based catalyst designed for anaerobic digestion. It strengthens the biology and buffers chemistry inside your digester, helping microbes convert feedstock into methane more efficiently. The result is higher yields, greater stability, and smoother day-to-day operation — without the need for new tanks or costly retrofits.

ActiCH4R™ accelerates methanogenesis — the final step of biogas production. It provides surfaces for microbial biofilms, adsorbs inhibitors such as ammonia and acids, and balances digester chemistry. This means volatile fatty acids (VFAs) are consumed faster, pH stays stable, and methanogens operate at a higher rate. Plants can handle higher loading without the risk of acidification or foaming.

ActiCH4R™ consistently delivers:

  • 25–40% higher biogas yield
  • Greater plant stability (fewer pH swings, less foaming, reduced NH3)
  • Higher CH₄ concentration, lower H₂S
  • Stronger microbial populations
  • Improved fertiliser quality from the digestate with stabilised NKP reduced runoff

ActiCH4R™ works across a wide range of substrates, including:

  • Food waste (municipal, supermarkets, catering)
  • Manure and agricultural residues
  • Abattoir and rendering waste
  • Municipal wastewater sludges
  • Mixed co-digestion setups

Yes. ActiCH4R™ supports microbial activity rather than suppressing it. The resulting digestate retains more nutrients and nitrogen, making it a higher-quality fertiliser. It is safe, non-toxic, and easy to handle.

Yes. ActiCH4R™ is compatible with all common AD systems, including:

  • Continuous stirred-tank reactors (CSTR)
  • Plug-flow digesters
  • Covered lagoons

Both mesophilic and thermophilic processes

ActiCH4R™ is mixed directly into your daily feed. No retrofit, new equipment, or process redesign is required. Dosing is straightforward and can be adjusted depending on your plant’s needs. RAFT Energy will work with you to provide accurate dosing support, ensuring the product is tailored to your specific feedstocks, loading rates, and plant conditions.
ActiCH4R™ has shown strong resilience under challenging conditions, such as variable feed quality or lower operating temperatures. By buffering chemistry and strengthening microbial communities, it helps maintain stable digestion and consistent gas production even when inputs fluctuate.

ActiCH4R™ reduces the buildup of VFAs, balancing FOS/TAC ratios, and lowers free ammonia levels. This prevents common process upsets like foaming, acidification, or sudden drops in gas output. In practice, plants run more predictably with fewer interventions.

Because it turns your existing plant into a higher-yield, more profitable, and more stable operation — without adding new digesters or major capex. More methane per tonne of feedstock means higher revenue, smoother compliance, and better sustainability performance.
